Fight Against COVID-19: CONET Company PROCON IT Supports the LEOSS Project

European case register LEOSS is to provide a database for a better understanding of the course of a SARS-CoV-2 disease – Munich-based data science experts work on a voluntary basis in visualization, processing and analysis

Hennef/Munich, April 30, 2020. PROCON IT supports the fight against the corona pandemic and joins the LEOSS project on a voluntary basis. The project, which was started by the German Infectious Disease Society (DGI) together with the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF), is creating a European case register in which clinical data from patients with a SARS-CoV-2 infection is collected. On the basis of this uniform database covering data on the complete clinical course of the corona disease, including previous illnesses and outcome, further analyzes will then be possible. Ultimately, this should lead to a better assessment of medication and the clinical course of the infections.

In a first step, PROCON IT implemented a visualization of data on the clinical course of the infection. By visualizing the data, the frequency distribution for certain parameters can be more easily recognized and explained. In a next step, the data PROCON IT science experts will be directly involved in the preparation and exploratory analysis of the data. The aim is to use an artificially generated copy of the medical data and the LEOSS database structure to develop algorithms that support the study team in the analysis to assess correlations between SARS-CoV-2 infections.

"We are very happy to be part of the LEOSS project and to contribute to the fight against the corona virus," explains Wolfgang Stadler, Managing Director of PROCON IT. “It is a matter of course for us to volunteer here.”

Anke Höfer, CEO of the CONET Group, adds: “We expressly support PROCON IT's commitment as a member company of our CONET Group. In view of the current challenges, all available experts from health research and data science have to cooperate closely in a joint effort to make the best possible use of the technical possibilities of modern IT – to provide information, to curtail the spreading and also to create a reliable basis of data facilitating further research regarding the SARS-CoV-2 infections and possible treatment methods.
